Now another thing has popped up since last posting, and annoying me then.
I got one of the cheapy H-P Pavilion computers running 98 given to me. The video goes whacko about every third day. I get a fully tan viewing area with diagonal streaks. That is all I can see, and cannot see the cursor. Thus only thought of solution is to do a three fingered salute, and hope it takes off clear and OK then, and back to normal. Heres the question(s) then....
1... Is this the fault of anything Windows related? A bad monitor driver, or is the whole monitor about the fail? It has given good service for ten years now.
2... There are no open extra slots for a separate video board in the motherboard. Instead the video is handled out of the mainboard three row plug. If the on-board video is bad, then is the whole motherboard about to fail too?
If I rearrange a few things inside the case, I could clear the way for a free PCI slot to be open. And, I do happen to have one extra video adapter board that uses a PCI slot, now sitting in the closet. But how do I then configure that Phoenix BIOS? Tell it to turn off the on-board video then. Last time I tried any changes it took off immediately, I could not see anything, the computer kept running and it gave immediate problems and error messages.

Likely a video card/chip or monitor issue. You should be able to find more info about getting to the bios here:

Oer'
The sides to the case are off at present time. Near zero dust inside.Still blinking off as mentioned about every third day.

To answer the question about add in cards. If you add a card of the same bus type as the integrated the add in card normally would disable the integrated. For instance if the board has an AGP slot then the integrated is also AGP. If you install an AGP card it should disable the integrated. If you install a PCI video card in that same board then BOTH will work and you will need to disable the integrated if there are settings. Or you can unshare the RAM the card uses.
Hope that makes sense.
