Got a used machine from a former co-worker a few weeks ago. Its a Pentium 100, 2GB HD, 64MB RAM, win win98 SE on it. Its an older, but useable machine that I planned to add to my home network.

When I first powered it up, POST executed fine, and the system booted normally. About 8 hours later when I got off work, I booted it up again, but this time had no display. I got no error messages, and no beeps. I tried 3 known to be good monitors, and 3 different video cards. I tried plugging the monitor and PC power cables in different sockets, and reseating all cards and RAM.

What could be the problem?

Do you think one or more of the RAM chips could be bad?

Any help is appreciated.

Bad RAM with cause the symptom that you describe.
Take your RAM out and reseat them. If that doesn't work try replacing them if possible.
