Hi again!

Here's where I am at with my system:

1. On board VC still not functioning normally. I can load windows in normal mode. If I adjust any monitor or video card settings and anytime thereafter reboot the system I get the folliwng fatal exception:
FEOD 0337:00005603
I then reboot and have the option of starting in safe. I start normally and then get an error that my display settings are incorrect. I okay through that, but do not restart until absolutely necessary.

2: I have attempted the install of a new vc. One I stole from old computer. It is a CL 3D Blaster Banshee model CT 6760. It is installed in the last (or maybe first ?) PCI slot.
I have downloaded the drivers for this VC. They were zipped, but now extracted to my c:

When I reboot, the systen loads (or appears to) but I have no video display whatsoever.

If I shut down and remove the card, I can reboot as normal, no safe/normal option, I just have only 16 colours.

I have also replaced the CPU fan and it's running normally! (GIRL POWER!) :o)

I've downloaded Everest and located the suggested drivers for the vc. Unfortunately they are the same drivers that the tech already downloaded.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks so much!
Kim

Ok - bit of a saga.. by way of background, it starts:

here, develops into this, leading to this which puts us here

(whew!)

Right - well, the original display is integrated (onboard video) right? Probably you need to disable it in order to use the add-in Banshee card. This may need to be done from the BIOS or possibly by means of a tiny little jumper on the motherboard (depends)

Yeah, try to stick to this thread for a while.

This bit:
"I have downloaded the drivers for this VC. They were zipped, but now extracted to my c:"

I'm a tad uneasy about what you mean. Did you just put the extracted files somewhere on the hard disk or did you "install" the drivers?

Whatever, you do need to check out jboy's suggestion.

Sorry guys, I don't usually post on boards so I'm not so used to the etiquette.

Yes my current vc is integrated. I've looked for the jumpers on the actual mb and can't locate them. (checking in around where the monitor connects... would it be anywhere else?)

Can I disable the current vc through the bios and then shut down the system to load the new vc? If it still won't load, how do I get back to the bios to re-enable the old 16 vc, without any visual? ie monitor?

Thanks again!

Well, check and see if it is an option in the BIOS. That's more likely, but not guaranteed - as mentioned, having the manual or other reference would be ideal.

I don't know how stuck you'd be if the new card wouldn't work and you couldn't see the BIOS to re enable the integrated card. I'd think resetting the CMOS (yet another jumper) would set things back to defaults, but I can't swear to that. It is fairly probable that the reason the add-in card won't work is due to the onboard one.

Thanks so much for your help! I really appreciate it.

I NOW have a fully functioning, clean system!

It took some fanagling and figuring out, but I've got it completely working! The old card is still listed in the device manager with a conflict but the system is recognizing and running off the 3d banshee! I've tried removing the card at the device manager, the system restarts, but loads the correct one with no errors whatsoever.

So, I'm going with... "if it ain't broke don't fix it"!

Thanks again for all your help! I really appreciate it.

I'm sure I'll be back with something new and strange! :o)

That's really good to hear. For sure, you won't be able to remove the SiS adapter from the Windows Device Manager (for long) - although maybe you can disable it there.

Otherwise, you'd want to check the BIOS for an option to disable.
