OK long story short I had to reformat/reistall win98se on my husbands computer. I can't find the software for the video card (trio 3D/2D). Bottom line my resolution is messed up and when I tried downloading a driver it won't open. It asks what program I want to use to open it (not selfextracting). I'm not sure what else to do please HELP.

If you are not sure whether it is the right driver, download, install and run this:
http://downloads.theregister.co.uk/...

The video card/module installed should be listed under Display/Video so it will save you peering inside the machine for numbers.

I uploaded a driver for that to driverguide a while back.

Just now I couldn't get that page to load. If you have any problems (or don't want to go through the nonsense of signing up), I'll email it to you.

Since you just formatted the PC, I'm guessing that the driver file has a .ZIP extension and you haven't reinstalled Winzip or Power Archiver (My preference).

Once you install either of these utilities, you can open .zip files, as well as a lot more.

Okay; I have tried no less than 20 different driver downloads and can't get any of them install. I got them off of driverguide and the S3 site. When I open the downloads there is an unistall button but not an install anything. I am getting ready to throw this thing in the trash and say &$#% it. Any other help would be greatly appreciated before I do something rash.

Did you try the download from #3 above? And if so, did you follow the instructions there?

And if it didn't work, post back what is written on the S3 chip that's on the card.

If none of these drivers are working it is almost certain that you are not using the correct procedure. I doubt there is anything wrong with the "thing".

What file types are these downloads, zips? (see my #1).

Did you try my #2 to identify the video card?

If you are still in trouble let us know what link you are using and the exact procedure you are adopting.
