I bought a 32 mb PCI video card off a listing at pricewatch. No system requirement was listed. I got it, (Palit Daytona TNT2). The box said P2 is system requirement. I have a P-1 233 Mhz. If I install it and try use it, will work at all worthwhile?

If you have a reasonable amount of RAM and very few or no programs running in the background (Start Menu, Taskbar) It should be fine.

Remember, the fact that you have a 32 meg video card is not going to do a whole lot more than a 4 meg card because of the 233 CPU. Your video will now be limited by your CPU. I would recommend a CPU upgrade to really see a difference, but it should work ok at any rate.

Where the CPU will really limit performance is in high-end games. Desktop acceleration and light-wieght Direct 3d performance will be very good, indeed.

Isn't the Palit Daytona TNT2 32 meg a agp card instead of a pci? If it is you will have a agp slot. Do you? Sound like you may have an older board that will not support the agp card.

Palit Daytona was advertised at pricewatch as PCI, came in box printed AGP (no I don't have AGP - son in law gave me a 8 mb AGP which I can't use, MB is PB680 "Orlando"). CPU can't be upgraded because of AMI Bios. The box had sticker that said PCI. I pulled the board out of the box (but still in anti-static bag) and it has a sticker (like UPC) which said it is PCI. I guess I'll know for sure if it fits!

Hi Mad Mike:

Just so you know, there is a processor upgrade out there that should work on that old Packard Bell.

I have used this type of upgrade and they do work.
