i had win98 and just updated to win2000, my video card is not supported so i need a driver that willwork with win2000. the onboard card is via trident blade mvp4, it is a compaq presario 7360. at compaq.com they only have drivers for this card for windows 98.

please help me locate a driver online that will support the card and windows 2000, having 16 colors is very frustrating.

Just to the left of your message are 4 links to drivers. Try them out. I wasn't aware that video resolution was dependent on the operating system, but rather on the video adaptor (card or on-board). When you updated, you probably defaulted to a generic driver. Read on:

Video Adaptors and Drivers:

The video resolution is controlled by the make and model of Video Adaptor installed in your PC (a Mfgr. function). Windows is installed through the courtesy of Microsoft which could not possibly hope to provide drivers for the hundreds of video adaptors on the market. Windows installs a 'Generic Driver' which usually works but at LOW resolutions. Read on:
Subject: Display

First check this:
Start>Run>Msconfig>Advanced
Uncheck "VGA 640x480x16"

One of the following may indicate what type of Display Driver you have:

To determine Video Adaptor type:

1. Start\Run\dxdiag
Once this settles down, click the "display"
tab.

2. Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Information>(+)Components>Display

Be patient and eventually it may show the model of the Display Adaptor (plus much other info you may not want or understand.)
[You will get less information by:

3. Right Click My Computer >Properties> Device Manager> (+) beside Display Adaptors]

Go to the manufacturer's site and download the latest drivers. Or go to:

[If asked for a 'User Name', enter : drivers ]
{If asked for a password, enter: all ]

You should be able to get it there. Bear in mind that you will still be limited by the Monitor hardware (picture tube) and the display adaptor (Video board or On-Board). If you cannot do better with the latest available video driver, you will have to spend some money.

To inspect/modify your display properties, go to:

Start>Settings>Control Panel>Display>Settings

Note 'Screen Area' and 'Colors'
If you can change the settings in "Colors' and 'Screen Area', you are in business. If not, you will need to buy a newer monitor and/or Display adaptor and download latest Video Driver.
