Hi,
I have bunch of old films in VHS format(VCR) that I was planning to convert to DVD or VCD format(i'm not able to find most of these movies in DVD or VCD format in market currently). I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how I could this. I have a PentiumII system with 128 MB of Ram, 13 GIG harddrive and 4x DVD on it.
Do I need extra Hardware, Software and etc. I'm pretty new to this, any step by step instruction would be appreciated. Thanks

I can't remember the name of the site, but do a search through, say altavista, for ripping DVD's, or VCD's or something like that. I saw a site that is exactly what you are looking for. Step by Step directions for burning VCD's. Sorry I can't remember what it was.

Well, you will first need to get a video capture card. If you want to go simple and easy to use the Hauppauge WinTV cards are great. A decent soundcard is necessary - I like the Soundblaster Live family. I would also uprgrade to Win ME or just download Windows Movie Maker. The compression on Win Movie Maker is just outstanding. You will only need regular COAX cables to connect your VCR to your WinTV card. Win Movie Maker will automaticlly detect the video you are presently viewing through your WinTV card. Go for it man!

Hi may be i am too late but i did not
like the follow up it is not helpfull
1-you have to have a good vedio card
to captuer the movie in (.avi)formatt on your hard disk. it will be (big)
2-depinding on the resolution & the size of the frams (hi ,large = good picture=biger file)
3-vcd need to be in mpeg1 as svcd in mpeg2
so you must encode the file to one of them
use (Tmpegenc) soft wear found in doom9 wep
it will take long time to do that go for tripe
4- be careful to load the settings for the output file to match the final (vcd or svcd .pal or ntsc) dont try to edit the boxes as i did.
5-use nero burner software to make final cd
just select (vcd or svcd) and the ness. files will be add to the cd ....> end .. enjoy....... (don`t forget to by cd-r drive)
another steps:
1- watch the VHS on VCR and go bed early

Hi guys,
I am making a video presentation which will finally be on VCD. I have a 1 Gz processor with 512 MB RAM a good CD burner and iLink Card. The software I am using is Ulead Photo Studio and Adaptec, Macromedia Flash 5, and Ulead GIF Creator also Macromedia Freehand 9. I have no problem so far but I have not burnt the final VCD so far. But converting Tape video to MPEG is no problem and I do it like breeze. My email ID is khalidia@hotmail.com when writing put "VCD HELP" in the subject line and I will be more than glad to help.
I will be burning the VCD as a final step of my project in a couple of days and I intend to use Adaptec to do it. I will definitely post my result here.

hi!
got ur address from computing .net. just curious if u can give me advice
on converting vhs movies to vcd.
my concern is how to improve the resolotion of the vcd. am using Pinnacle studio VCD capture card, ravisent Cineplayer DVR to record and Nero cd burner to create VCd through a sony cd writer.system is PIII 450, 96MB ram. ( am having a hard time installating a matched ram to increase the capacity), 6Gb HDD.
a colleague of mine suggested that i should record first the vhs into DVD format or Mpg2 then decode to Mpg1 for wrting into a VCD. does this makes sense?
thanks
arnold
