I just uninstalled Adaptec Easy Cd Creator and Direct CD. When it asked me if I wanted to delete the shared files, I for some stupid reason said yes. Now Windows will not load. It said that one file was missing and I replaced it with the cd I got with my computer. I have an ibm aptiva which has a cd I can use to get any of the original windows files from.
Now a screen which flashes really quick says something about an xms cache problem, then I get this blue screen that says VFAT Device Initialization Failed, A device or resource required by VFAT is Not present or is unavailable. VFAT cannot continue loading - system halted. What can I do to fix it? I have that aptiva cd I can use to get original windows files or directories from, but I don't know what ones to use. I tried intalling the Adaptec software and uninstalling it on another computer (a win 95 computer, I have win 98) to see what files it asked if I wanted to keep or not. I copied them from that computer to a disk and did the F8 startup thing to get to the comand prompt mode and copied them back into the hard drive, but that didn't work. I really don't want to reformat. What can I do?
