Hi I have a major problem. After I Install a few programs and restart my computer on either Windows ME or Windows 98SE I keep getting the message:
" Windows has encountered an error accessing the registry windows will now restart and fix the registry for you" (something along those lines)The weird thing is I had the same problem with my old computer as well. But when I take my computer to my friends house I never get that message. I've spoken to a computer technician and he said it has something to do with the power at my house.
With windows ME I find I can trun off scanreg through run > msconfig etc and i wont get that message. But when I try doing the same thing with Windows 98se it will still scan the registry for errors when I reboot.
I'm sick of ME and its problems I just want to use 98se again. Any ideas of how to turn off scanreg completly in 98se?
Thanks

Click Start / Run and type msconfig. Click the startup tab and uncheck the scanreg box. I agree Win ME is trouble.

HelloYou know that Windows uses this application to make a backup of your Registry, System.ini and Win.ini files and put them in a rb00x.cab folder. 5 such backups are always in C:\WINDOWS\SYSBCKUP. It's not a very good idea to turn off Scan Registry because if registry become corrupt and you need a recent Registry copy...
You can work arround this problem if you
download and install a very good and free proggy called Rescue2.0.Here you have a direct d/l link. This program let you make 2 different (Registry & a few other critical files) backups and when having problems, you can restore one of them in DOS; it's fast & easy. If you need more guidance about R2.0,
please let me know
