What ever you've got it doesn't sound nice.
1. You might want to try a anti virus sweep
2. I had a similar problem, i could see the programs but not unistall them as i was misssing a dll file needed (_SETUP.DLL). I ended up deleting things mauallly then finally wiping my HDD.
3. You can get special programs that help you instal programs and make sure that it removes everything when you unistal programs.
4. If you do have to wipe your HDD, instal windows milenium when it comes out this year in march

What programs are you trying to unistall?

If it is office 2000, good luck, M.S. has a white paper on how ti unistall it, but it's about five pages of files you delete, and involves editing the registry.

You may want to download and install a program called Add/Remove for Good. It will find and uninstall any and all programs on your local hard drive. Try www.winfiles.com for a shareware version of the program. Hope this helps.
