When my computer boot, why does it stay so long with the message verifying dmi pool data and then start win 98. Is there a way to speed up the process.

Invalid System Disk
Replace the disk and press any key

I've found information on this, what I've found relates to hard drive setup in the BIOS. You might try to telling the BIOS to use a USER defined settings, somtimes AUTO configuration doesn't work. Type in the parameters for your hard disk (cylinders, heads and sect./track). Save settings and reboot. This might help, mine now gets passed the DMI Pool data verification, but then locks on boot with a "Insert valid system disk" error. If I find anything else, I'll get back. (btw the hard drive I'm using spins up fine on another machine)

Is it possible to turn DMI POOL off ? Actually I am running a dual boot on my machine, win98 and NT w/SP3. Windows 98 comes up fine, windows NT on the other hand does a couple of things. It either freezes, locks up totaly or sometime it gives me a message that flashes on the screen so quickly I don't have time to hit pause. Have no idea where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm getting that cursed verifying dmi data pool freeze as well, only my problem is I run all scsi hd's in my system. It happened just after I tried to install another scsi hd and now the pos refuses to do anything once it gets to that point. I tried every suggestion I could find online about fixing the problem but I've had no luck. can't get it to boot with a floppy, nada, zilch, zip. I've tried clearing the cmos, made sure all of my settings were correct, even tried removing all of my cards except for my video and the same thing over and over. Checking all of my hd's in the scsi bios everything if fine. If anyone has any clue what I can do to salvage this beast please let me know. If this information will help, I have an a-trend dual pII with scsi onboard, ultra wide with 2 ibm ultra wide scsi hd's. I'm at a total loss.

I have just set up a new machine, it has nothing in it but a floppy and video card. When it boot, after detecting NO HD's, it gets the DMI Pool Data lock up! What could this be?

Seems like nobody has the answer for this. I am having the exact same problem. It angers me though because a few hours before hand it was booting just fine. Now, even with the 95 or 98 boot disks, it still will not get past the "Verifying DMI Pool Data..." which means that I can't do anything. I can't fdisk, I can't check my partition, nothing. The hard disk is empty... it just has a newly loaded 100% DOS Partition on it that i just created. What to do now?... the boot disks don't help.

yeah, this problem really sux, it's been happening to me on and off. Usually I just shut down the computer and wait a whle for it start up fine. sometimes it doesn't. One time I couldn't take it anymore. I've isolated the problem to removing either my network card or my TV tuner card. The problem seem to arise only when both cards are in there. but then it worked again much later after I tried resolving any IRQ conflicts but that doesn't seem to be the case. The NIC also appears to be very stubborn. It is the only card that won't take any IRQ I specifically assign it in the BIOS, it chooses what it pleases. I have the SOYO 6VCA mobo. Anyone else having this issue? or know what's going on? I've flashed the BIOS a couple of times already.

I had the same problem. I couldn't do anything. It wouldn't let me boot from any drive. I replaced the bios chip on the motherboard and then was able to boot. I had the bios burned at biosworld.com.

I recently had the same dmi lockup after I formated one of the partitions on a drive that had win2000 and win98 dual booted. I couldn't boot to floppy with my usual boot disk so tried a win95 disc and a win98 boot disc with no luck. Then I tried a win95 boot disc from an old packard bell and booted. I also used a windows 2000 boot disc and it worked fine. Some boot discs worked and some didn't?????
