Previously I was able to play VCD dat files using WMPLAYER ver7 on my dell latitude laptop. Due to over useage of my PC I ran out of free space and I had to reformat the system. Now I have reintall the Win 98SE including all softwares but the PC cannot play any of my video dat files with WMPLAYER ver7. I installed WMPLAYER 9 series then Cyberlink's Power DVD and a whole lot of other video players I got from the net but none of these will play back the dat files.

The PC is however able to play audio CDs as well as non-dat video files.

Can you help me out.

Try opening WMP before you load the VCD.

You'll may have to contact Dell on this since their web site is less than informative with info about their components.

It seems the reformat killed a codec needed to play digital recordings. Is there a recovery CD with drivers for your particular latitude laptop?

Serious virus infections that have hobbled your computer are justification but reformatting due to lack of space is sort of a drastic measure.
