Is there any way to connect two computers onto the internet at the same time, using the same phone line but without using network cards.

No there is no way with or without network cards. You will need two phone lines. PS Network cards have nothing to do with connecting to a phone line.

I believe I have seen a "BOX" advertised to accomplish this in computer catalogs, which is of course acting as a network connection of some sort.
And of course you CAN do it by networking the two computers, as you already seem to know.

There is a product from Diamond Multimedia called HomeFree HomeNetwork which allows you to use your existing telephone wires to connect your computers together. This does not interfere with the telephone in any way and you can use 1 computer to be your internet access point allowing the other one to use it's modem to access your ISP. You can find out more at their site www.homefree-networks.com. I currently have one of these systems installed and it works good for me.
