Using a boot disk

I know how to make a boot disk but from there I am lost.So can someone out there tell me what I need to do after I make the disk and if I can't get windows to boot.Using win 98 se.

If you are able to boot from the floppy: type: scandisk That will check your hard drive for problems. But it would help if you explain what happens when you try to start up windows.
