My computer was custom built and it came with a really nice usr 56k hardware modem. I wanted to put in a 2nd modem(Award 56k V.92 Winmodem) so I can use them both at the same time for downloads. Of course I will only use the hardware modem for regular internet stuff. When I download big files using both the 56k hardware one it will only connect at 28.8 bps and the winmodem one connects at 49.9 bps. When I take the winmodem out, the usr 56k hardware modem connects at 51.6 bps. What is the deal with this. The winmoden shouldn't affect the hardware modem since it is all controller based. Do I have to get a hardware modem for the 2nd modem when I hardly use it?

Does your ISP support that (dual modem connections)?

Most do not which could explain the problem.

The actual connection stated is not the actual download speed, if you have wired both modems together you will not get faster downloads unless your ISP support Dual Login, or you have two seperate connections which I believe is only supported in NTXX.

As well as having an ISP that supports dual modems, I believe that you need a separate telephone line for each modem ie; two different telephone numbers.

I would like to know how this works and how to set this up. I have heard of it before but never actually tried it.
