When shutting my Win 98 PC, I have been getting messages that says there are 1 or 2 users still logged into the system and shutting down will disconnect them. I only have 1 user setup on this PC. It is not networked with my other PC, but they both connect to the internet via a hub. I also have VOIP so I am not sure if this has anything to do with this. My main concern is a virus or hacker of some type. Any ideas?

Something of a long shot but go to Control Panel/Network and hit the "File and Print Sharing" button. Make sure neither of the boxes are ticked (unless you need them to be).
W98SE does sometimes have shut-down issues (for which there are fixes) but I don't recall these symptoms.
It doesn't sound like a virus to me but I'm not 100% certain. No harm running your AV. You might care to run this freebie trojan finder too:
A-SQUARED FREE - JUST DOWN PAGEBUT. During install it asks if you want to invoke the (new) Context Menu option. DO NOT go for it, it causes problems on W9x. Otherwise it's fine, you just run the scan - which takes a while). Don't worry about any cookie issues it reports, they are not important.

I agree with Derek about the file and print sharing. I have 4 computers connected to a hub but only 2 connect to the Internet. Any time I shut any of them off that message comes up about others connected. I just unclicked the file sharing on one of them and no message came up when shut down. Seems to be your solution.

if that happens again, cancel the shutdown, run netwatcher and see who is connected, you could have a trojan on your system allowing other access . Go to www.moosoft.com and download The Cleaner, also download and run Spybot Search and Destroy & Spyware Blaster.
Run them and update them then disconnect from the net and do full system scans with spybot and the cleaner. Disable file and printer sharing as in the previous post, you don`t need it if you are not on a network and its just (yet) another open door.reboot and run netwatcher again If you do see others connected to you when using netwatcher then disconnect them.
I assume you are running a good Anti Virus prog and also a firewall, if not then AVG is a good anti virus from www.grisoft.com and Zone Alarm is a good firewall from www.zonelabs.com
Try these steps and post back if you still have the trouble
