how do I get rid of the username/password promt when Win98 first boots up? Thanks

If user profiles are enabled you need to disable it in the control panel (click Start, point to Settings-Control Panel, then double click Passwords, click User Profiles tab, and click All users use the same..., then click OK. If that doesn't get rid of it, changing your password to nothing.

Go to the start menu, click on find, type in *.pwl and click OK. Then delete all password files. Close and reboot. When prompted to enter a password do not enter one just click OK. You won't be asked for a password again.
