Did you try re-loading windows over itself? That seems to cure quite a few problems.

If the computer is working correctly, do NOT replace the file. Just check the ingore box.

C:\windows\system is the directory for the "user.exe" file.

To use SFC to replace a file click on "OK" when it identifies a file. follow the directions. You have to brouse to the direcrory where the new file is located and allow the program replace the file.

f SFC tells you that you have a corrupt USER.exe file DO NOT RESTORE Instead choose Update. SFC has a bad bug in its program regarding this file and will grab the first file it finds of equal size from the cd and will rename that file to User.exe and you won't be able to reboot the computer.

Just clarification.
There is no renaming going on. There are 2 versions on user.exe on the CD and SFC picks the wrong one to restore.
