I've got a Lexmark x74/75 with a USB connector.
I just installed a 1.1 PCI card, but the printer is not recognized when connected. Card is enabled in the BIOS, and all seems fine under Win Device Manager...Printer works fine on XP machines....Any ideas would be most appreciated... Also, does anyone know what the differences between Open Host Contoller Interface (OHCI) and Universal Host controller Interface (UHCI) are???? The USB card I have is a OHCI card, and I have no idea if the printer is OHCI compliant.Muchos Gracias
Think for yourself

I would try other USB device on the card to see if it works OK so you will know for sure if the card is actually working properly. The windows sometimes will report that the device is Ok in the device manager, it is not always true becuase it does not really look at the USB connector itself with the loop back testing method to really verify the device.

How well a USB card works depends on how old you mboard is, and which PCI spec it was designed to. If the PCI spec is too old, most mice and keyboards will work, and some printers, but many printers and other devices that use more modern standards and require the newer PCI spec will not work - there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. If you have a mboard made before 2000 or so, this may be the case.
Even if that is not the case, if you installed a USB 2.0 card, they are SUPPOSED to be backward compatible with all USB 1.x devices, but often they are NOT 100% - if that's what you got, get a USB 1.x card instead or in addition to, for best chances of success. You can test the card itself by installing it on a newer computer, and trying the Lexmark on that - it will probably work fine - in rare cases, changing to a good name brand USB card might help, but that isn't likely these days - they are all pretty well the same.
"Open Host Contoller Interface (OHCI) and Universal Host controller Interface (UHCI)"
You should be able to find info on the web. It is possible, but unlikely, the Lexmark would work if you got the other type. Try the card and Lexmark on a newre computer.
By the way, have you tried a USB mouse or keyboard with this card? If they don't work, you need to look in Device Manager to make sure the card is being recognized. Also, you may need to install USB support in Windows, if the computer didn't have it before.

Thanks for the help...I'll be trying a USB mouse to see if it works. The card is 1.1 and is more or less "name" brand (Belkin). It's frustrating though, I've installed USB support via a download from the MS 98 site, I've done everything I can think of....Bad Voodoo man, bad voodoo.
Anyway, any and all help is appreciated and i hope that one day I can return the favor.
Chris
