Comment:
can anyone tell me how I can capture my usb printer to an lpt port? My software will only print to an lpt port, and my printer is connected by the usb... printing to lpt1 results in an error.

Well U have a USB peinter, so if U just boot your computer up and then plug in the cable once it has booted it should automatically detect it as USB is plug and play. There is no option to choose a USB port for a local printer. If it still prints to LPT1 after doing what i told u to do, go to start-settings-printers and right click on the printer you installed. Go to "ports" and then click capture printer port, making sure the USB cable is in.

It sounds like you are running some old software. Most modern software for Windows just lets Windows handle it through whatever is registered in as the default printer. If your program handles its own printing chores instead of this route, the short answer is that it will not work at all. There is often a work around though. The output is probably text if the program is very old. Most programs will let you print to a disk file. Save the desired printout to a file and then pick it up with Notepad, Writepad, etc. and send it to the printer. It will be handled by whatever is the default printer.
