i was putting some music on my mp3 player, and when i unplugged it from the usb port the computer just shut off. When i turned it back on it ran scandisk like it does when its been shut off the wrong way. After that windows started and told me that my mouse wasn't working, i have a usb wireless trackball mouse so i tried changing the battery and it still didn't work. so i tried plugging my other mp3 players into it and they all started charging their batteries but wouldn't connect with the computer. Please help me!

Go to My Computer>Control Panel>System>Device Manager and look near the bottom of the list where your USB devices are usually located.

If there is anything listed, AND you have your Windows 98 CD handy, delete/uninstall anything listed under the USB section only.

Click OK on the System Properties box and restart your computer.

Windows may or may not ask for your CD, but will start the New Hardware Found routine and start installing software.

If this doesn't solve it, you may try uninstalling then reinstalling any and all software associated with your MP3 players.

Logically if you are still able to charge your MP3 players via the USB ports then there "shouldn't" be anything wrong physically, but, stranger things have happened.

Be sure to check your trackball and MP3 players on another computer to ensure they have not sustained any damage.

Good luck.
