I have a Diamond 56k USB SupraExpress modem. Each time I boot into Windows (98SE), the modem isn't recognized and doesn't work. Unplugging the USB cable and replugging it at this point doesn't work either. But if I shut down, pull out the USB cable, reboot Windows, then plug the USB cable in, it's recognized and all is fine.
I've tried all the typical fixes- replaced cables, reinstalled, got new drivers, deleted the device mgr. references to the modem and USB, etc. It is the only USB device installed, and I am not running a hub, extender, or anything other than a short (maybe 2') USB cable. The same thing has happened with 2 different motherboards (Asus P2B and Abit VT6X4).
Thanks in advance for any help given.

Dan:
Restart your computer, usually on the first black/white screen that comes up it will say hit DEL to enter setup (something to that effect) This will take you to CMOS (bios setup) You will want to look under something like INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS or PNP/PCI configuration (each CMOS is a little different) you are looking for the setting for USB enabled/disabled. Chances are your USB ports have not been enabled witin CMOS. Use either the PAGE UP or PAGE DOWN keys to change the settings (look in your mb manual to see how you navigate within your cmos for sure) Once you have enabled the USB ports then hit ESC to get back to the main menu, then choose F10 to save and exit. Your computer will reboot, when you get into windows it will recognize the USB ports and install the correct drivers for the USB root hub ( it may prompt you for your windows cd at this point) and then it should recognize your USB modem.
BLESSINGS
