Hello, a few months ago I was given an mp3 player from my uncle as a gift. I was happy, but the thing is its from a foreign nation. I have no clue what its model number is because the instructions are barely understandable. What I do know is that if I plug it into my WinXp it automatically provides a driver, but not on Win98. The cd it comes with never installs the driver properly, Win98 keeps detecting it as a new hardware device. Can you guys direct me to some genralized driver that I can download for the mp3 player?

at least you can make sure your Windows 98 drivers for USB devices are up to date:

Thanks for the replies guys, there is a generic driver that I can install from win98, and im sure its up to date after running windows update, but it requires a file from the win98 cd to complete installation. heh, that cd is so old I have no clue where it could be. Is there an online archive containing such files?

I'm no expert on these but I recall something about formatting them on XP before they will run on W98 - BUT DON'T TAKE MY WORD FOR IT. Might be something via Google.

Any chance of identifying the device from XP when it is plugged into XP?
