Check in your Bios for something like USB Keyboard Support and ensure it is Enabled.
If the USB ports are On-Board then ensure OnChip USB is Enabled also.

I have checked for USB keyboard support there is an option i have enabled it but it still comes up with the same message

How about the second set up settings I listed above?
Mine is under Advanced Chipset Features.

Scroll through the differnent menu's in your Bios. Post back with anything relating to USB.
Is the USB On-Board? Connection goes directly to your Motherboard or Does it go through a PCI card?

Are you running Win98 or Win98SE?
Right click on my computer and select properties. It will be listed as to which one you have including a ver. number.
Post back with all the above.

I thought it had worked. when i restarted for the first time it was fine then when i restarted it for the 2nd time it came up with the same message as before "keyboard error or no key board present what can i do now???
PLease help

Tim,
Ensure you have a good connection.
Unplug it and plug it back in.
If it worked once then everything all software and bios settings are correct. This is of course unless the bios battery is bad and after re-booting the default bios settings were initiated!
Check the connection and the bios settings and post back.

Ive checked bios settings and the USB keyboard support is still enabled and the one above, i have reinstalled the file downloaded and on first reboot it works fine 2nd reboot appears with the mesage "keyboard error or no keyboard present"
ive checked the connections between the keyboard.
PLease Help!!!!!

How about just disabling "Halt on keyboard errors" in the BIOS? That way the message would still be displayed, but you would not have to press a key to continue booting?

It worked thanks again. I have restarted the pc about 10 times just to make sure that it wokrs i have set the setting under standard cmos set up to halt error=none except keyboard. Is this ok?
Thanks again

When I start my computer I receive message
"Keyboard error or no keyboard present". I think that my keyboard is connected well.I troubleshoot the problem reconnecting the keyboard when the PC is still switched on.
But this is again every time I start the computer.
Can you help me?

I have quite an old computer (1994) and I haven't used it for a while, but when i start it up it comes up with Keyboard Error Or No Keyboard present, and the system won't boot at all, and I can't gain access to the BIOS settings as the keyboard dosn't work and it won't boot. I have changed the CMOS Battery but it made no difference
Please Help, I'm going mad!
