I'm trying to fix up an old laptop which runs Windows98 FE. I haven't been able to use a flash stick because it keeps looking for a driver, which isn't on the disk. Another problem is I can't use the internet to download. Does anyone know where I can find a program I can download to a CD? Many thanks

and the file you want is w95usbflash11.zip. I know the description is about Win95, but I use this on Win98SE and it works perfectly. I have used it on several different brands of USB Flash drives. After the install, everytime I stick in a new USB stick, Windows detects the new hardware and installs the software. A USB stick that already been installed before is just instantly issued a drive letter. It's just what you want. And, it's small, just 16kB.

Thanks, I'll try that. Will it work on WIN98 first edition?

Yes. Read the webpage at the link. It was actually put together to work on Windows95. It is just a generic driver that the webpage author put together a custom .INF file to install it with. But note: this is just the basic driver. You have to get USB support properly configured and working yourself. I found it simple to use, just pointed Windows to the .INF file after it detected a USB flash drive and Windows set it up and registered it. Now it uses the same files for any USB flash drive and it has worked for many different brands and models. Also note: the guy who put it together has two versions. I've only used the most recent, but he keeps a link to the old version in case the new version doesn't work for some reason.
