Comment: My USB port only sometimes recognizes my Intel camera as an Image Device. Usually I have to perform a shutdown/restart and at the restart physically remove the cable from the USB port and then reconnect (a real pain because of location)it before all the drives get loaded. Timing is important. I started to leave the computer on 24/7 so I just don't have to go through this procedure. W98SE/ Dell Dimension1000B/Intel PC Video Camera CS431/. Did several uninstall/install - also switched USB ports (have 2) - running out of ideas. Thanks Irene

Reply: (edit)I had that problem a while back and reinstalled and it went fine after that. Does your camera HELP file mention anything about your problem? Most likely it does.

Reply: (edit)good idea on the help file--also, check the readme.txt file in folder where the camera's software is stored to (or on the install CD.) There may be something peculiar to your operating system etc.

Reply: (edit)I had/have a similar problem with a USB headset. My resolve was to purchase a USB extention cord. After my PC is up and running I can then plug in the device and it is there. When I am done I unplug it before I shut down. If I forget (which I never do) it will detect a new device at power up and have to start all over but if I remember to disconnect before shut down all goes smoothly. Not the answer you were hoping for but it is workable. I have other USB devices that work flawlessly and exactly as expected. Bryan

Reply: (edit)To get around the shutdown / restart process, open 'Control Panel / System / Device Manager' In 'Device Manager' locate 'Imaging Device' or however the device for the camers is listed. Expand the item, click on the camera and click 'Remove'. Wait about 20/30 seconds and click 'Refresh' and Device Manager should 'find' new hardware and reload the device' I have had to do this to several Canon scanners on different systems to get them to work. I dont know if it is a poblem with Mother Board USB drivers, The device drivers or just a quirk of USB. HTH
