I am a cable technician and I install cable modems as part of the job. Usually when we run across win98 and try to install a modem via usb we have probs. It finds the device and asks for the drivers. We browse to where the drivers are on the cd and it finds it. Then as soon as we hit finish, it finds the device again and asks for the driver. This time, it cant find th driver though when we point to it. We usually get fed up with it and just put a nic card in the machine, but is there anything I can do about this? Thanks.

Not sure if this is your problem but ...
Some times windows will ask for the Win9X install CD. What he really wants is the location of the drivers. Just redirect him to the location of the drivers that you are trying to install.

Check for USB support in the BIOS, update the USB motherboard drivers.

Where can i get the updated drivers for the USB drivers for my modem. I tried MSN but got bored and lost in the information overload! My real problem is install an Alcatel modem. The cd stops when trying to instore the driver. I try to browse the cd and the Driver file is unaccessible yet i can browse any other file on the cd without any problems. I then tried the folder options and show all files, the driver folder remained blank? Took it to pc world and they said agreed a file was missing. Yet the replacement cd does exactly the same thing?! I think my Registry my have a vital Key missing. I tried to run another file SCAN.exe and this error message sprang up :
"scan.exe file linked to mising export SETUPAPI.DLL : CM_Reenumerate_DevNode" Any ideas or possible solutions are welcome. Pc world claimed to have been able to use the folder options to view the .inf files under show all files on Win98se. Yet this does not work for me and i need it on my machine. i'm contemplating re-formatting my C: and re-installing windows (my last resort?) HelpMe
