I have been using a Fujitsu broadband modem for some two years. It is connected via a usb hub. Recently it refused to work. A windows message says: There's not enough power in the hub to run the modem and asks me to connect it directly to the usb port on the computer. I did this but it still does not work. I reinstalled the modem and driver and still no joy. Also, my mouse is affected - it freezes. When I disconnect the modem, the mouse works as normal.
I bought and installed a speedtouch 330 usb modem. The same problem occurs.
The hub seems to be working as I run the printer via it.
Is it something to do with the USB on the computer?
I was thinking of buying a ethernet card and modem and going on this route?
Any help will be appreciated!

It sounds like your modem is faulty (When I disconnect the modem, the mouse works as normal)

I hve a similar problem with a usb floppy, used to work thru my hib no problem then my hub dies nd i bought a new one, everything else plugged into the hub still works apoart from the floppy which now ONLY works when plugged direct into the mobo UDS ports. Its possible it got damaged by a spike when my originl hub died tho s you also have a new modem this is prpobably not the case. Its possible that your hub can no longer power heavy current. If you could borrow another hub and try it you could nrrow the field of possibilities down a bit

if unplugging the modem makes the mouse works, it looks like it probably is the power. there is simply not enough when both modem and mouse are plugged in, so when you take one out, the other takes the extra power and functions properly.

may sound a bit silly, but if you unplug the mouse, does the modem work?

Hi

Thanks for your replies. I'll try the modem without the mouse. I haven't done this yet.
I find it strange though - everything worked well before. how can there be less power now? I haven't added any hardware.

Hi

I tried unplugging the mouse. I cannot then select any option because of the lack of a mouse.

I did notice though, in settings/modem it does not list the speedtouch 330. In add/remove hardware, it lists the speedtouch software, and a speedtouch control panel is present in the system tray??

Hello

This may not be much help but when my ADSl modem acts up I disconnect the USB connection at the PC, while the computer is running! and reconnect
