How much RAM do you have? PCs that come with Windows 95 installed generally don't have anymore than 64MB. 64MB of RAM will allow you to install XP, but until you disable the eye candy, it's going to be kinda slow, but not unusable.

What's the capacity of your hard drive? XP needs about 1.5 GB of space, plus extra space for storage and files.

Some old PCs give an error when trying to boot from a CD. In that case, go to bootdisk.com, download a Windows 98 bootdisk. What you downloaded will be a .exe file. Launch the .exe file and follow all instructions. You'll need one blank formatted floppy disk. Then put the floppy in the PC in question and turn it on. The PC should boot from the floppy. If it doesn't, make sure that the floppy drive preceeds the hard drive in the boot sequence option of the BIOS. If it boots, type X:\i386\WINNT.exe and press enter. Substitute X: for the drive letter that the CD driver will give the drive.

There's no "official" upgrade from '95 to XP (unless you upgrade to '98 then to XP). I'd strongly recommend you reconsider, since a Pentium I (your specs) machine designed to run '95 would at best be bog-slow on XP without some serious hacking (i.e.-nLite)...

Thanks for that point, I forgot that Windows 95 is not an official upgrade path.

You do know that you are considering trying to pull a 35' travel trailer with a VW beetle, don't you? You may get it to work, but your not going to enjoy the eXperience.

"Model/Manufacturer: pentium", if you list this correctly, some options can be given.
Same goes for "CPU/Ram: pentium".

I'd suggest getting a whole new PC. The official minimum specs to run XP are a Pentium II with 128MB of RAM, but even that will run it slowly. I'd reccomend atleast a Pentium III (of any sort) with 256MB of RAM.

I agree with the above. The 400 MHz Pentium 2 isn't bad running XP either.
