Comment:

when trying to upgrade my dual boot win98 se to win 2000 pro, system says the option to upgrade will not be available at this time because setup was unable to load the i386\win9xupg\w95upg.dll----
the system cannot find the file specified.

it then request to do a clean install of which i decline.

... wouldn't this be a Win2K issue?

... even glossing over the obvious questions (like what earthly point is there to creating a dual boot 2k/XP system, or; why post in a forum devoted to the OS you're getting rid of?) - I don't think you can easily proceed with that kind of an upgrade with that kind of a setup

- maybe I'm mistaken, but it doesn't sound like it's going terribly well so far

Disregarding whether or not you're in the appropriate forum... (moot point as to whether or not you need to be here or in W2K...)...

"Cannot find file(s)... etc." during W2K (and NT/XP) setup are frequently due to an issue with installed RAM. Reduce to a single stick - min of 128Meg and try each in turn...

Also is the system truly OK for W2K? Perhaps run the W2K readiness (upgrade analyzer) util? It may cough up a few issues - e.g. possible software updates required, and possible driver issues... Ensure you have all required updates for drivers various before proceeding with W2K installation..

And how are you setting about this upgrade?
