Upgrade Win 98 to Win 98 SE

Comment:
I have a computer with Win 98 FE on it and I am having a hell of a job installing some camera software on it and even the technicians at HP (camera brand) can't assist.
I have a Win 98 SE disk. Is it possible to upgrade using the Win 98 SE installation disk without losing the existing data on the computer?

Yes. Is the SE disk a full version, upgrade or update disk?

Morning Tracey,
You will need SE to get any semblance of USB support. In your position, a 98SE update disk would be a great asset if you happen to stumble across one.
You could use the SE installation disk to perform an over the top install. This involves renaming win.com so the install program doesn't find an earlier version of windows and insist on an upgrade version. You will also need to change the install directory from windows.000 back to windows.
You may also need to reinstall the chipset drivers to get USB support.

Watch the screen carefully. Like Rimfire said, it will try and install to a c:\windows.000 folder. Make sure that you change it to c:\windows.
