upgrade from win95 to win 98

hey all..i have a pc with win95 and i want to upgrade it to win 98SE..my question is that as i have a lot of progs/software on this pc..by doing an upgrade will my files be overwritten or can i safely upgrade leaving files and progs intact. any help greatly appreciated :)

If you have an upgrade version of Win98, the installed programs will work fine.
