Just wondering if I were to rename my windows dir to windows old would it let me install windows 98 and then I could del windows old dir, I bought windows 98 but the full version not the upgrade about a year ago and I'm just gettingaround to doing it so I can't return it.

That should work. But it will be just like starting from scratch. You will have to reinstall all your programs.

you should back up your hard drive. save anything you've created and pix etc.

changing OS will be a real pain if you don't reinstall your applications. And like Luke said it will be like starting over so you have the opportunity to wipe the hard disk clean (a very good thing).

You will need to get all updated drivers for all peripherals (printer, video card, sound card scanner, stuff like that). W989will have enough drivers to get you started but you will want to go the each peripheral's respective web site.

As soon as the computer's up search Google for ADIA32 and run it. that will aid you in finding the drivers you'll need.

Houston007, yes you can do that, but as stated above, it's a "less than ideal way" to go about upgrading to Win98.

You CAN however, use the full version CD to do an upgrade by first renaming win.com to something like win.old, then rebooting with a bootdisk & installing from DOS. You shouldn't lose any settings or apps, but backing up important data is never a bad idea.
