Hello, I have one question...

Can I update a Windows 98 Second Edition with a version of Windows XP withou lose the information that I have in the hard disk?

I don't want to format the hard drive.
Can I do that?

You can upgrade 98SE to XP. Just be aware that some applications and peripherals (such as older printers, scanners)may not be supported by XP. Your data will remain intact after the upgrade. Generally, a "clean" install is recommended (wipe everything off the HD with a reformat), but it is not necessary to do it in order to upgrade.

I have the Windows 98 installed in the Hard Disk.

I want to install the Windows XP, but without lose the information that I have in the Hard disk.

I would also suggest that you download updated XP drivers for all your devices before you install the Windows XP upgrade. A second hard drive in a computer helps a lot for backing up documents downloaded drivers, Installation programs for programs downloaded from the Internet.

You are living in a dream world if you think that any PC will run forever without crashing. you MUST
have a backup system. This may seem obvious but you have to do this backup BEFORE the crash. CD-R/RW drives are cheap now -$50 to $200 and CD-R disks are less than a dollar in quantity. New PCs are now coming with CD-R/RW drives already installed.
You can also install a second hard drive. That is faster but it is still part of your PC and subject to hardware failures.
