updating bios on ibm thinkpad 240?

just purchased used thinkpad 240.in looking for audio,video,&modem drivers on ibm website noticed a bios upgrade. will be installing 98se as 240 shipped with this OS&wondered if flashing bios w/newer version is a good idea.anyone out there have any advice. Herb

I have a ThinkPad 760ED and flashed the bios on that. I wanted to put a bigger hard drive in it and it wouldn't accept it until after I flashed it. I'd say go for it.

don't want to upgrade any hardware.just wondering if flashing bios w/ newer version will correct any problems with 240 running 98se. Herb

I honestly think it will help in the long run. a 240 is a pretty old machine, isn't it?

240 is about 4 years old. for me it's a pretty new laptop. understand what you mean though. reread info on bios update on ibms' website& it half relates to bug fixes(fn key combinations etc...)& half to win 2000. have flashed bios on compaq lte 5100& ibm 560 to accept max ram &run win98se but flashing bios is permanent so if you screw up there's no going back. think i'm going to see if there's any of the bugs. thanks Herb
