When I use Photoshop to restore and/or retouch
images, the average file size is about 40-60M.
I discovered that my hard drive actually accumulates all the operations performed on the work file and stores the data in a temp file (PST1234.tmp) which takes up space and slows down
my performance. When I try to delete it during the work, the deletion is denied. Photoshop itself has to be closed in order to delete these temp files. Today I had to delete 587M of temp files just to work on one image! This is a @$!%&! pain! I truly hope there is a solution out there. Please. ... any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

The only solutions I can think of is to A:uninstall whatever software you run the least to free up space or B:get another or a bigger hard drive.

Oops! Bad solutions, sorry. It sounds like you need more RAM. When Photoshop saves transformed data of an image, it stores it into memory, however if not enough memory is available it will store the information on the hard drive in temp files.

This really isn't a direct solution, but do you think maybe your image sizes are just a bit large? I used to scan a few things on an older scanner, not noticing the settings, and I would have these HUGE, 50 meg images. If you have an image over 100 KB, you really ought to find a new compression technique.

Look to Photoshop Software for your answers. If it were performing correctly, it would erase the temp files when finished with them.

Would I benefit by having 512mb of ram?
