Unwanted files that won't delete!

Comment:
The GAIN program jumped on my computer like a leech, and won't uninstall properly. A number of files (with no property checks) are left that won't delete, and their folder also won't delete. Also there are entries left in the Registry. Suggestions? --Joe

Joe, The link below has Removal Instructions.
http://www.doxdesk.com/parasite/Gator.html
You may want to download, install, read the instructions, then update & run Ad-aware 6 which you can get for Free at the link below. It should get rid of GAIN (formerly GATOR).

Use Tufnuf recommendation first and if you have files that you don't succeed deleting with a message like Windows is using, these can be deleted by shutting down to dos.Use del and the path to the file to delete it.Example: del c:\windows\system\thefile.dll Good luck.

Spybot search and destroy is another good removal program, it will catch files that ad-aware dosnt. Be sure to update ad-aware and spybot b4 running scans.

You could also start your PC with a Win 98 boot disk (no CDROM support) and delete the files from DOS.
adaware 6 has build in option (automatically checked)to delete files after reboot if presently in use by windows

Tufenuf's recommend: Ad-Aware at Lavasoftusa was helpful, but the results were not quite complete. Blender's additional recommend of Spybot Search and Destroy finished the job. Both tools have a free version. Thanks for the suggestions, and thanks to the authors of these programs, which appear to be widely used!! -- Joe
