My system crashed, and when I rebooted I got a small red rectangle in a black screen with the message FREQ. OUT RANGE plus a couple of figures. I rebooted again with no problem, and have had no problem since.
This has never happened before. Is it something I should worry about?

If you had inadvertantly set monitor resolution too higgh.. you would have gotten a similar message... Possibly somehow (immediately prior to the crash, or perhaps during it) the monitor settings were changed - albeit briefly.
It might be a vga card issue...; it might be a windows problem (software/drivers) issue itself.
I think I'd be inclined to leave things as be, but be ready for the unexpected... Meanwhile - ensure all data etc. is securely/safely copied off the system (removavble media etc.); keep those copies up to date too.
