A folder has appeared in My Computer that doesn't have a name. When I right-click it, I get the options to cut, create a shortcut or delete it. But none of that works.
Please help me to get rid of it.

Hi.
When you right click on the folder you should also get the option to OPEN, if you do try to open it to see what it holds.
Then get back to us. Have a nice day.

Gawd this folder is inactive. First I thought "of course, I'll do that" BUT it wont even let me rename it!

You could try pulling it down to the task bar, then trying to delete it. OR
Try doing it all from windows explorer, find it give it a name, if you can give it a name in Windows Explorer, you may then delete it in windows or try Doss.

Do you have TweakUI? It will allow you to make changes like this without editing the registry. TweakUI 1.2 is included on the Windows 98 CD, in the \tools\reskit\powertoy\ folder
Version 1.3 can be downloaded from the MS site or here: CLICK HERE
As usual, do a little homework and just use some caution using the tool.
Hope this helps......ck

Sorry, re: post 6, a slight lapse in memory here. TweakUI will only hide the drive in 'my computer'. Must have been thinking of control panel.

Oldhobo,
It didn't allow me to do any of that... I tried to boot with prompt only. But I dont know how to change location to where the file resides, as it is directly in my computer, not in the C: or D: drive. Typing 'cd..' when standing at c:\ wont work.CK,
I can't find anything inside TweakUI that will solve my problem..?JPW,
It only allows me to create a shortcut to it, and when I try to do that, it tells me that it can't create a shortcut here, and ask if I would like to place the shortcut on the desktop insted. I answer yes, and I'm told that the shortcut could not be created, and I should check that the disk isn't full.

Try scanning it with your anti-virus software. If you don't know where this folder came from, you should be very suspicious of it. I would also run Adaware, just in case.
Science is Cool!

Sci-Guy, my thoughts exactly. You can d/l Adaware from Lavasoft or CLICK HERE
(Much prefer the new background color on this site.)
Here is a free online scan at Trend Micro: CLICK HERE
HTH.................ck

Go to Start, Run, type in 'regedit' without quotes and hit OK.
Click on HKLM in the left hand column and navigate to Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer and click on the Explorer folder to highlight it.
Go to Edit, Find and type in namespace and click OK.
Each time you find one in the left hand pane that shows a string of numbers within a 'namespace folder it will have an associated and recognizable name in the right hand pane such as My Documents or Network Neighborhood. You should be able to find one that has the string of numbers in a subdirectory of a 'namespace' folder in the left hand pane and with no name at all in the right hand pane. There should only be one like this which is your un-named folder.
Click on that string of numbers in the left hand pane and then go to Registry adn Export. Save it to My Documents or somewhere that you can easily find it.
Then right click on that string of numbers and select delete.
If it did not work after restarting your PC then go to the exported .reg file and doubleclick it to add it back into the registry.
Then look for another and do the same thing.

Hi LH,
What do you mean by 'it is directly in my computer' ? Do you mean that this file is on your desktop? if YES, you can find it in windows/desktop folder. At DOS prompt type
cd windows/desktopyou should be able to locate the folder here
if you check the directory.Murali

No, it is hanging out with Control Panel and Printers folder "directly in My Computer"
>>perhaps some of the terms i use is incorect, that's 'cause I translate them from Danish. It would be alot easier if I was at home on my English OS version...but I'm not...so reading the weird danish translations of english terms and then try to remember the correct english word again, might mesh something up in the understanding<<
Anyways, I am fizzling with Response Number 13 right now. I managed to remove the folder (WOOHOO!) but it implemented some new errors right away =P
- Sci-Guy, CK -
Ran Norton AntiVirus and Ad-Aware, both found nada.To sum it up: I think I am close to a solution, I'll let you know when I've found the right one.
So far THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE =)

THE FOLDER IS GONE
This computer is soon to be reformatted (or given to someone else). So I uninstalled allmost every program I had on it, and now the unnammed is no more! :)
Unfortunately I did not see wich one was the trouble maker.
