I had a box in the task bar showing "OLEChannelWND". Nothing happened when I clicked on it but it would not go away. Has anybody any idea what this could have been?

I'd think it is associated with outlook express. You might run msconfig and check the startup tab to see how it's loading. You could uncheck it to keep it from loading.
Most of the google responses concerned problems involving that process without really explaing what the purpose of the file was. Usually the problem was OLEChannelWND was causing the system to hang. Fixes ranged from uninstalling media software--Real or Winamp--to replacing RAM.
It's probably nothing to worry about as long as your system is running OK. Maybe someone more familiar with the file will explain it's function.
