Comment:

Each time I send/receive in OE 5.5 using Win98se I get the following error message:

An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C0131

Incoming mail will then download from the cable server but outgoing mail stays put until I close OE at which time a box informs me that I have unsent messages and would I like to send them now. Clicking "OK" then sends them with no problem.

How does one repair an unknown error ?

Thanks.Melanie.

Dear Melanie,

There is a dedicated IE6/OE site where Mr Tom C Kock, Frank Saunders and Jim C Pickering (amongst others) all help out with problems. Even though you have IE5.5/OE, I am sure they would help you as the programmes would be similar. There you can get "live" answers to your queries till they are sorted out.

The site reference is:-

microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress

and is accessed via:-

msnews.microsoft.com

Victor.

Dear Melanie,
the Error is not unknown to me. I think you have more than one email account. You need to log in at your email provider's start screen to send emails directly from there but with no OE, otherwise use the email account of your internet provider for sending email via OE.

Thank-you so much for your help.
I renamed the folder.dbx file to folder.old, then rebooted and the
folder file rebuilt and rearranged
itself but the problem disappeared.

One comment - most searches of the
Microsoft database concerning Win98
return a "file not found" response.

You people are great and I just love
you!

Melanie
