Couldn't find this problem in data base, but at reboot the New Hardware Wizard comes up for an Unknown Device. However, there are no unknown devices in the device manager. How do I get rid of this annoying window other than cancelling it each time it comes up?

There is no yellow ! which I am familiar with from past issues. That's what has me puzzled.

Boot into safe mode, then check device manager. Check every entry, looking for duplicates. If you find anything listed more than once, remove all of them. For instance, if the floppy is listed twice, remove BOTH entries (not just one), then reboot & let Windows sort it out.

Don't cancel the unknown device box when it opens on startup. Keep hitting OK or NEXT or whatever takes it to the next box. It'll eventually say it can't find the drivers for the item. After that you'll get the yellow ? in device manager and the unknown device box won't come up anymore.

Of course you should figure out what the item is and install its drivers. Something like Everest may help.
