was wondering how to un-install this, was running a duel-boot of XP and 98 to see which is more stable. i would just delete the windows directory but wouldn't the duel-boot thing still come up when i started my computer??

Yes, the win98 selection will stay in your boot menu unless you fix it.
You have to edit the "boot.ini" file to get rid of it. This file usually resides in the root directory of your C: drive. It is a hidden file. Be careful when editing it...

You COULD edit the boot.ini file directly, but you really SHOULD do this from within Windows.
Right click My Computer>Properties>Advanced>Startup & Recovery>Settings. Here you can change the default OS that loads & change the timeout for displaying the boot menu. The default is 30 seconds with Win2K...I believe it is the same with XP. Change it to 0 seconds & you will boot directly to XP. Look around. There MAY be a setting to edit or eliminate an OS from the menu. Sorry, but I'm on a Win98 machine at the moment, so I can't check.
The other way to fix this would be to do a "repair install" of WinXP. This would rewrite the boot.ini file to eliminate the dual-boot choice.

[Operating Systems]

C:\="Microsoft Windows 98"i took out the C:\="Microsoft Windows 98" part and it asked me if i wanted to boot from windowsXP or windows(default).. anybody on a XP machine give me a correct boot.ini??

i think i f---ed up.. i left the modified boot file in there, then i went to the startup settings in WinXP, i told it to start up winXP with 1 second delay, but for some reason it tried to start up the win98 i had deleted the folders for, and i couldn't get into XP, so i had to re-install windows98 on my D drive. but now i still can't get into XP, is there anywhere i can switch my startup properties like u said for windowsXP?

*smacks himself in the face* i forgot on a fresh install of windows98 i can't see hidden or system files.. all i had to do was edit it from the boot.ini, i though it had complete disappeared.. anyway, i still need to know how to take out the win98 completely

Boot to XP; set default OS to boot = XP; remove boot.ini entries (perhaps save an unedited version to a floppy - just in case...?); reboot to XP (to confirm you can boot OK by default...).
Once in XP OK:
Locate/delete (via XP Explorer) the '98 Folder; also the Swap-file. You can also delete the '98 boot/start-up files if you wish; or leave them be as they take so little space?Defrag afterwards to tidy up the drive.
Job done?
(Exactly the same routine to remove '98 from a dual-boot with W2K.)
