how can i format my win2000 and install win98?

thank you very much

is your win98 cd bootable? if not, you'll need a bootable startup disk (usually floppy) then format using that bootable disk. win98 runs on a different file system (fat32) while 2000 runs on ntfs. then you would need to run fdisk or debug to remove your hard drive partitions. you can install win98 once you cleaned up the partitions.

i wish i were what i wished i were before i wished i were what i am now...

Go to bootdisk.com and get a win98 bootdisk.

When you do fdisk with the win 98 bootdisk make sure you delete all partitions including non-dos.

The file you download at bootdisk.com is a executable program that makes a floppy boot disk for you.You double click on said file and it will ask for a floppy disk.

If your hard drive is greater than 64GB, you will need the new FDISK. It can also be downloaded at bootdisk.com. I'm not sure if it's on their win98 floppies or not. Maybe someone else knows.

I just checked to see if the win98 floppies at bootdisk.com have the new fdisk. It appears that they have the old fdisk, at least the sizes are different then my new fdisk in my system.

Hello everyone,

There is a Win98 bootdisk which contains fdisk for drives larger than 64GB and also contains delpart.exe located at the bottom of the page here.

Yes, Mesich has the best answer as you need a way to delete the NTFS partitions and the Win98 (DOS) utility can't see them whereas DelPart can and remove them.

(Grabbing a copy of that one myself - Thanks)

I have removed ntfs partitions with a 98SE boot disk. It's annoying to do as they reappear constantly, but after a while they finally get removed :P. Thanks for the link to the updated FDISk.
