I installed xp to my laptop. I installed a few programs (antispyware, msn messenger, etc.) I decided I didn't like xp and uninstall/restored the previous os (98se). Now I have these programs leftover from xp that I would like to rid myself of. Does anyone now how to do this without installing xp?

If Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs isn't doing it, then you'll have to find all the folders containing the unwanted programs and delete them.
Then search the registry for any entries pertaining to those programs and delete those found keys/entries.
Then a registry cleaner can be used to find any dead/obsolete keys/entries.
Then (as a further measure if desired) you could restart in MSDOS, and type scanreg/fix on the command line.
There may be programs out there that may effect "repairs" of the type you require, but this is how I do it.

So you loaded Win98 on top of an XP installation? I'm surprised it works at all. It is always best to format the drive and start anew with a new O/S.

I believe he installed XP, used the backup function for the "old" O/S, then performed the uninstall/restore function. The drive was left as FAT32 (for the XP install) which is why the "programs" are still on the drive.
