I'm trying to uninstall NIS 2002 from my desktop - win98 se - I can't boot win98 either normally or in safe mode. I can get into dos command line, can anyone help with how to manually uninstall NIS from DOS please?

Boot to dos standalone
Type scanreg /restore
Restore to a date before the NIS install (if it's available)

Note that the above will uninstall NIS, but will not delete all the NIS folders/files. That will have to be done manually

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I don't have a previous file to reload from prior to NIS install therefore I guess I'll have to manually go through all the DIR for NIS and delete. Unless you can suggest anything else?

Unfortunately deleting the files probably will not help. The entries in the Registry have to be removed. Doing that from Dos would be an extremely complicated job.
Maybe Norton tech support could help. Or maybe someone else here on this board has an idea.

*I*'m trying to do the same thing; I bought a laptop, and it has NIS on it...
Every time I connect to the www, it loads something called "Parental Control"...
It doesn't seem to interfer after it loads... it's just that it takes about 2 minutes to load... I hate that...
When I try to turn it all off, it says I have to log in as a "security administrator" or some such....

I got the computer off eBay... and the person that sold it wasn't the original owner... so it's unlikely that I'm going to find the admin password...

I guess I could slick the hard drive, and reload windows... but, it's got some other nice programs that I'd hate to lose.

HELP, please....
Thanks.

Get Rnav2003.exe and Rnis.exe. These are official remover utilities from Symantec for NAV and NIS.
