Unable to run Full System Scan-free

June 20, 2005 at 11:08:23
Specs: Windows 98, 64 MB-SD-RAM

I am having difficulties running a "Full System Virus Scan" as a pop up box comes up---"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". One time a Symantec Box pops up "Norton AntiVirus was unable to scan your computer for infections because some Norton AntiVirus components are missing" My computer freezes up!

Another time I got this message Scan Progress "Scan For Threats --- No Threats Found. Norton CleanUp Scan---repairing 11,104 of 11,114 items cleaned - URL History
(10 problems).

Another Scan : Summary
Scanned 59 files Detected 0 / Master Boot Record= 0 / Boot Record = 0 / and also a Norton AntiVirus Pop Up Box
appeared.

I did a "One Button Scan" last week and it ran completely through (I guess?). It came up:
Windows Registry = 4 errors found---Missing Microsoft Shared Files ---1 problem --- and Invalid Active X/com Entries = 3 problems. HELP!

Try running a scan in safe mode. Press F8 during a reboot after the memory test and keep pressing it until you get a menu.

I hope the message about repairing 11,000 file was eroneous.

You may try reloading your antivirus and or
going with a 3rd party antivirus like
antivir or avg if the safe mode scan
doesn't clear the problem up. also if
you do go with 3rd party antivirus make
sure to update its definitions and then run
the scan in safe mode.
