I have installed both win 98 and win xp in different partition of same machine.
In win xp everything is working fine, but with win98 I am unable to play MIDI files,The problem is that the MIDI tab in control panel's. Multimedia properties is showing "Ronald –MPU 401" as output single instrument but whenever I try to play a MIDI file the software's seems that it is being played but UI can not hear any sound.
If it was due to hardware problem how it is being played xp ? if there is no problem in hardware then why the MIDI is not played in win 98 ? can any one help me ?
Thanks

Do you have the Roland External Instrument to play it through?
If not then Right click on My Computer, select Properties.
Go to the Device Manager tab, Scroll down to Sound and Game controllers. Highlight your sound card device and hit the Properties button (or doubleclick the soundcard device to open it's properties page)Go to the Settings tab.
Under 'MPU-401 Output' select "Internal synthsizer"and down below that choose "Autosense" in the Output mode box.
Click Ok, Ok.HTH
Bryan
