Hi,
I have a problem with internet. I could not open any webpage. When I type any web page suppose www.yahoo.com at the bottom bar of internet explorer it quickly displays “Searching for yahoo.com” searching for yahoo.net, searching for yahoo.com.org” within few seconds and gives error unable to open web page. I tried installing Netscape but it also gives same problem. I tried reinstalling windows 98(not totally fresh though on my existing one only) but the problem persist. My net gets connected, it displays connection icon but I am not able to open any webpage. I tried installing internet explorer 5.5 and also tried to remove Internet explorer completely with ieradicator and install fresh IE 5.5 but all in vain. I have checked with my modem and network setting but no problem. Can any one help me……… Please.
Bye
Amit

Are you on dial up or broadband internet? I had a similar problem a few years back when I was using a dial up connection whose settings were suddenly changed by the company and I was never informed about them. I could connect to the net but all the browser did was search for websites but never connect. If you haven't already done so, give your ISP a call and make sure you have the right settings.

Try a DOS level cleanup of your caches.Click Start>Shutdown>Restart in MS-DOS mode.
At the C:\Windows\> prompt key in the following, pressing Enter after each line:
smartdrv
deltree tempor~1
deltree cookies
deltree history
exitAlso, go to Tools>Internet Options>Connections>Settings and check that "Use a proxy server for this connection" is not checked.

"Easy-To-Handle" problem
Amit my friend, the problem is not yours. The problem is with your net provider which is NOT connecting properly. It´s called "frozen connection".The solution is to find another provider.
