On trying to install AVG 7 I get a message telling me that DCOM95 is missing. A search in "find" shows a dcom95 folder in Windows System.
Anyway I downloaded the self extracting file from Microsoft. On double clicking it extracts a folder containing another .exe file into Widows Temp & that's it -nothing else happens. According to Microsft it should install.
Any ideas?

Dennis

Hi Dennis,

Go to the Windows Temp Directory.

Open the folder x86.

Click on DCom95.Exe.

Hi all.

I encountered pretty much the same problem some time back while attempting to install a version of AVG on a 95B machine. Finally gave up on it, after trying various methods.

I think I tried running the temp file (can't recall though) - for sure, post back with any results.

Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

Hi folks

Thanks, that's good to know - I'll bear that in mind if I encounter it again.

Thanks for that info re DCOM95 as I just experienced the same problem. If it hadn't been for your info I would still be sitting here trying all sorts of unzip files and file transfers to try and make it work!
Cheers from NZ!

Hi,

Thanks for the information about dcom95.exe.

That seemed to work fine. The next step with the AVG Version 7 essential upgrade resulted in this message which I find very disappointing.

"IE 5.01 or Office 2000 required!

AVG Anti-Virus FREE Edition requires system components which are not present in your operating system. Please install either Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.01 or Microsoft Office 2000 or newer prior to the installation of AVG Anti-virus FREE Edition."

I have tried to rid my system of as much of the dangerous MS material as I can and it is
with regret that I will probably have to look for another anti-virus system that is capable of standing alone.

Thank-you Mesich,

I had incurred the same problem with AVG 7.0 and DCOM95.

I Goggled in and picked this site first, as my first try, and was able to correct the problem immediately with the information and directions you have provided here.

I guess I will be able to keep computing on the "Ole 95" for at least another year.

Thanks again Mesich for the service you provide here.
